Soon vs Google Tasks

The short version

How they compare

The same jobs, done two ways.

Getting things in

Soon

Soon reads a whole sentence: "pick up oat milk, call mom tomorrow at six" becomes two tasks, each with its own time, and pills show what it read. Paste text, pick a photo, share a link or drop in a text file, and Soon suggests the tasks in it.

Google Tasks

Google Tasks keeps it short: a title, details, a date and time, a deadline, a repeat and subtasks. Its best trick is in Gmail, where Add to Tasks turns an email into a task.

Voice

Soon

Talk to Soon and it splits what you said into tasks, with dates and places filled in. Unclear tasks get a short question afterward. English and Polish, even mixed.

Google Tasks

Voice goes through Google Assistant and Gemini, which can add, edit and show your tasks. Google says some Assistant actions are only available in English, in the US.

Places and people

Soon

On iPhone, Soon reminds you when you arrive at or leave a place you saved. Tasks tied to a person come up 15 minutes before a calendar event with them.

Google Tasks

Google removed location reminders from Assistant and Keep, and Tasks doesn't have them. There are no person triggers. You can assign tasks to people in a Chat space or a Doc.

Calendar

Soon

Soon reads the calendars on your device, including a Google calendar added in iOS or macOS settings, and keeps event details there. It shows events next to tasks and finds free time, but doesn't put tasks on your calendar.

Google Tasks

This is where Google Tasks shines. A task with a date and time shows up in Google Calendar, you can give it a duration and mark yourself busy, and block time for it right from the calendar.

Sorting and cleanup

Soon

Soon sorts tasks into Now, Soon and Someday and shows only what fits the moment. Tidy up asks about tasks that keep slipping: keep it, move it or let it go. Unclear tasks get a short question.

Google Tasks

Google Tasks has lists, stars and a Starred view. Reminders nudge you until a task is done. It stays out of your way and leaves the sorting to you.
